Inaugural Butte/Glenn 8th-Grade Career Day:

Fostering Early Career Exploration and Celebrating CTE Month

The Butte County Office of Education, The Glenn County Office of Education, and The Butte-Glenn Community College District are pleased to announce the inaugural Butte/Glenn 8th-Grade Career Day, slated to take place on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds in Chico. The event will run from 8:45 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. and aims to provide an interactive and inclusive platform for all 8th-grade students in Butte and Glenn Counties to explore diverse career opportunities within the region.

Aligned with February's designation as Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month, the Butte/Glenn 8th-grade Career Day holds particular significance in spotlighting the vital role of CTE in preparing students for future careers. By fostering early career exploration, the event seeks to equip students with the knowledge and understanding of the educational pathways and training required to pursue various professions.

Approximately 2,000 8th-grade students from 35 schools across Butte and Glenn Counties are expected to participate alongside approximately 500 educators, industry exhibitors, and volunteers. The event promises to offer a dynamic and immersive experience, featuring interactive displays, hands-on activities, and engaging presentations from professionals across a wide range of fields.

The Career Day event will provide students with an invaluable opportunity to explore diverse career pathways and gain insight into the skills and education needed for success. By empowering students to make informed decisions about their futures, we aim to cultivate a skilled and adaptable workforce that will drive economic growth and innovation within our community.

Local legislators are invited to join the event to lend their support and underscore the importance of early career exploration in shaping the future workforce. Their presence will serve to enrich the experience for students and highlight the collaborative efforts of the community in fostering career readiness and educational excellence. We hope to highlight the importance of career exploration and education, especially in rural areas like ours with unique industry needs. Butte and Glenn Counties boast a rich tapestry of industries, including agriculture, manufacturing, and technology, each contributing to the vibrant economic landscape of our region.
